Mission
1. The mission of ECDA is to promote dialogue, understanding and cooperation for social, economic and political development that further the well-being of its members.
2. To contribute to the various communities in which we live in the United States/Canada and elsewhere through community activities, involvement and education which promote the Eggon cultural heritage.
3. To encourage, support and facilitate the creation of a sense of community among individuals and organizations committed to peace, social justice and sustainable development in Nigeria, North America and elsewhere in the world.
4. To promote and advance the science, process and art of nonviolent conflict resolution, community, and grassroots empowerment through public enlightenment, educational means including research, publication, discussion and community participation.
Objectives
To promote peace and the spirit of one Eggon.
To render moral and economic support to all members in times of need. Such support shall not be extended to those involved in criminal indulgence.
To promote, foster and protect our diverse cultural heritage through exhibition of Eggon/Nigerian crafts, classroom presentations and cultural performances amongst the communities in which we live.
To encourage mutual interaction and understanding between ECDA and other associations and agencies within Nigerian, North American and other communities that share similar objectives with ECDA.
To contribute to the sociocultural, economic, educational, technological, and scientific development of Nigeria through community service and grassroots empowerment programs and projects.
To serve as a center for new arrivals’ orientation to their communities and to create a forum that would inspire Eggon people to become good and productive citizens.
To serve as a vehicle for the promotion of economic development of Eggonland by encouraging North American and others to engage in mutually beneficial activities of business exchange.
Memberships
Membership in ECDA shall be open to all Nigerians of Eggon ancestry only, who:
[i] are sons and daughters of Eggon now residing in North America.
[ii] are related to Eggon through parentage.
[iii] must be from the age of 18 and above, willing to attend meetings regularly, pay all applicable fees when due and behave in a responsible manner.
[iv] agree to abide by all provisions of both the North American Branch and National Constitutions.
[b] Spouses of members qualify to be members and can vote and be voted for. Spouses may vie for all offices except the following: President, General Secretary and Treasurer at the Branch level. Spouses will enjoy all privileges and responsibilities of membership.
